Just found this website as I am beginning my journey into a more vegan lifestyle and I love your recipes. Also trying to lose a bit of weight myself so I appreciate your focus on that in menu choices. Falafel recipe - brilliant, easy and guilt free. Avocado toast same. Best of luck and don't sweat the setbacks or times when you fall a bit short of your ambitious goals - man you are hard on yourself. Anyway thanks again for this delightful site.

I just found your blog (while searching for a vegan tuna recipe), and noticed that you're currently sharing your weight loss/health story as well. I don't think this is at all your intent, but it saddens me slightly that someone so accomplished as yourself should end up focusing on weight loss/diet. I do understand that blogs are inevitably somewhat confessional in nature, but I also wonder how/whether it's benefiting you? (Do you think you need the extra accountability, I guess?). Anyway, as someone who has been both over and underweight, I urge you to be kind to yourself. Not just about your weight loss, but about everything. When you think you're being kind, be kinder.

Thank you Beth. Your honesty and humility are refreshing. I live that way and am often repunished for admitting what everyone else covers up. : ) At 56, I am nearly forced to live on a very low carb, grain free diet, I still don't lose weight quickly, if I lose at all. Thank you for your inspiration.

In reply to <a href="https://passtheplants.com/finding-my-means-week-6-update/#comment-12014">Kirstin Troyer</a>.

I get the differences in the journey between husband and wife, that's for sure! My husband started running every day last fall and hasn't missed a day since! He's lost weight and kept it off while I'm struggling. Thankfully he's super encouraging and patient, as my journey is MUCH slower and less focused than his. Getting there, one step at a time. :)

In reply to <a href="https://passtheplants.com/finding-my-means-week-6-update/#comment-12122">Mary</a>.

Hi Mary! I'm SO overdue on replying to comment, apologies! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I have had my thyroid checked and all seems to be well. I'm writing an update on this right now, actually, as I've been quiet on this front the last few weeks and have decided to switch to a monthly post. I have lost a little more, and have been making exercise a regular part of my life just in the last couple of weeks in particular. Slow and steady, giving myself grace when I fall, to make getting back up easier. Standing with you in this effort! :)

This is interesting! I appreciate your openness about the failed cupcakes and the other things. I am losing weight too! The rate is about 2 lbs a week. What is amazing about it is that God has given me supernatural weight loss! I don't try to overeat, but I made carob frosting for my almond cookies and piled it HIGH - well I ate 3 of them in one week! But I still lost 2lbs that week! I am opening a vegan restaurant soon! Please check out my Youtubes which have nothing to do with food by Worldchangerbygrace. :)

Hey Beth,

I have been following you for a while and I can't remember if you have ever mentioned if you have seen a doctor regarding your weight loss/diet. I know it's personal, but sometimes thyroid can have a big impact on ability to regulate weight. Also you mentioned carbs and I have seen numerous people claim to lose weight on HCLF diets. I am not sure about it myself but one of my very favorite people that prescribes to this lifestyle that I look to for inspiration is Lily Koi Hawaii. She has lots of great information about nutrition and metabolism etc.

I am currently starting a major weight loss endeavor myself. I broke my back and was bedridden for a year and a half and gained 60 pounds. I still need to lose 40 and know that becoming part of a support network is a great idea.

Another thing, I get the weather, it is winter here in New Zealand and the psycho, sun/rain weather is enough to drive you mad!!

Thanks for sharing all of this with us!

Great post and transparency....it's hard. I am on a journey to lose weight as well as my hubby but we tend to clash on how to do it..lol. He tends to get down on himself and I'm trying to love myself where I'm at, and then keep working out and eating smarter! I can't wait to follow your journey and try some of your recipes.
